How I Got Promoted Three Times in Four Years by Practicing Yoga
In the span of four years, I moved from the Account Executive level to Director in my Advertising job, which is abnormal in the Ad industry, where most people usually get promoted every two years or so. This “should’ve” taken me 6-8 years to do. And it all started with practicing yoga.
Flashback to 10 years ago, I was ambitious (still am), and I was stressed, and it SHOWED.
At peak stress, my face was covered in cystic acne and there was a week that my digestion was so messed up that I accidentally pooped my pants TWICE. Not even kidding.
What I didn’t realize was how much it affected every single interaction I had at work, and outside of it. Ultimately, the way I was managing MYSELF was blocking everything I wanted in my career.
And THEN, my career took off. And quickly, even compared to colleagues with the same work experience as me.
HERE’S WHAT SHIFTED —> I began to implement the practices of yoga into my life, and everything around me started to transform. I started meditating, monitoring my thoughts, and regularly moved my body. Ultimately, I learned how to RELAX and trust myself. And it trickled into EVERYTHING.
I started showing up as a leader. New business pitch presenting alongside the President of the company? Okay, no problem. Manage the pickiest retainer client? Sure! Grow my team from 1 to 6? Yep. And, I was spending my record LEAST amount of time in the office (and rarely working at home).
Most importantly, my ability to manage stress, maintain a level head when presented with new, challenging (and honestly annoying) obstacles, and be responsible for a team’s outcomes led to promotions, and increases in salary.
