Why You Should Skip Meditating Some Mornings

One of my teachers shared that to pass through the golden gates of meditation benefits, you have to meditate at least 30 days in a row to open the gates, so as a good student and also a young professional, I found myself frantically squeezing in my meditation practice right before I sprint-walked to the subway for work. Anyone else?

On day 30, I was looking around for the gates and didn’t seem to feel much and wonder if anything had changed. I thought I would really be able to notice and feel that I had entered a new reality. I didn’t feel it. Still, I pressed on as long as I could without missing a day.

Then, let’s be real, I started missing days. And, it became clear that the days I missed meditation, I was more irritable, less patient, less clear and most noticeably, more DRAINED from work at the end of the day. I realized how much better I could just DEAL with the crap storm of life by sitting for 10 min in the morning.

Turned out, by missing a day here and there, it helped me see where I had been before, and that I actually had sneakily slipped through the golden gates, which only fueled my motivation to continue on.

Try skipping a day here or there, and comment below if you could tell the difference.
